– Anti-doping officials are promising the toughest drug testing yet during the Vancouver Olympics, and they say more than 30 athletes have already been caught in the months leading up to the Games.

– From Davos to Iqaluit, Canada’s strong banking record during the global economic storm is used by the Harper government at international summits to squeeze maximum political capital at home.

– Less than three months after striking out on its own, Cenovus Energy Inc (CVE.TO) is taking an aggressive new stance on oil sands development, moving up its timeline for a major push by as much as a year.

With its new-found freedom to direct capital spending now that it is independent from EnCana Corp (ECA.TO), Cenovus said it’s also redoubling efforts to develop promising projects.

– The Competition Bureau’s attempt to break up what it calls “anti-competitive” practices of the Canadian Real Estate Association could heat up the housing market even more because it will lead to lower commissions, says a Bay St. economist.
